Zig Zag to Capertee

Zig Zag to Capertee

Sydney

Mar 2025

  1. Starting at the Zig Zag railway,
  2. follow Old Bells Line of Road North.
  3. Right onto Glow Worm Tunnel Road
  4. Left back onto Old Bells Line of Road
  5. Veer left where it turns into Beecroft Firetrail
  6. Straight onto Maiyingu Marragu Trail (previously known as Blackfellows)

This will bring you to the Maiyingu Marragu rock formation, Aboriginal Place.

You can then continue a short way to Wolgan Road. Here, you can either head back to Lithgow or continue through the bush towards Capertee.

The Bicentennial National Trail has a steep incline at the beginning, including a reasonably intimidating step up; you've probably seen videos of it. However, there is another track just south of this much easier one! That's where we went.

  1. Right at Baal Bone Trail.
  2. Turn left onto the Bicentennial National Trail
  3. Ben Bullen Mountain Top lookout is on your right 1.5km after the turn
  4. Turn left onto Moffitt Trail (has steep parts)
  5. Along this part are three steep grades at 14%, 15%, and 16%.
  6. This will pop out at the railroad crossing partway between Lithgow and Capertee.
  7. Head to Capertee for fuel and a good pub lunch!
