Zig Zag to Capertee
Sydney
Mar 2025
- Starting at the Zig Zag railway,
- follow Old Bells Line of Road North.
- Right onto Glow Worm Tunnel Road
- Left back onto Old Bells Line of Road
- Veer left where it turns into Beecroft Firetrail
- Straight onto Maiyingu Marragu Trail (previously known as Blackfellows)
This will bring you to the Maiyingu Marragu rock formation, Aboriginal Place.
You can then continue a short way to Wolgan Road. Here, you can either head back to Lithgow or continue through the bush towards Capertee.
The Bicentennial National Trail has a steep incline at the beginning, including a reasonably intimidating step up; you've probably seen videos of it. However, there is another track just south of this much easier one! That's where we went.
- Right at Baal Bone Trail.
- Turn left onto the Bicentennial National Trail
- Ben Bullen Mountain Top lookout is on your right 1.5km after the turn
- Turn left onto Moffitt Trail (has steep parts)
- Along this part are three steep grades at 14%, 15%, and 16%.
- This will pop out at the railroad crossing partway between Lithgow and Capertee.
- Head to Capertee for fuel and a good pub lunch!
